Just found this! it was much better when we could download the certificates as word files, fill them in and email them to the schools. We could put a logo on the certificate, they looked neater because they weren't handwritten and it gave the instructors the chance to think about their comments rather than rushing them in the staff room. I vote we go back to the old way!

I don't think kids with SEN should meet different outcomes, but the instructor should be able to use their discretion and common sense. I trained a girl with Downs Syndrome who could ride perfectly well, understood and dealt with hazards and understood when and why to give way. She could look around her and meet all level one and two outcomes, but her signalling was incredibly wobbly; although she could ride one handed, sticking her arm out was the issue. She was desperate to ride to school (a one mile journey on exceedingly quiet rural roads) with a friend who could signal and so they rode together. She rode at the front and made all the decisions and the friend did the signalling if it was required. Two years on, she is still riding and able to signal. After a chat with the teacher and with a carefully worded certificate, I was happy to give her her level two badge back then and I feel it was justified.

Hmm... I always teach them to "take control"! I explain that they're trying to prevent anyone overtaking them and that they're putting themselves in charge briefly.

Still waiting for guidelines and activities and games... I'm doing some pilot sessions now, but would like to know if I'm doing what's expected! Also, I'd like to see the certificates and stickers we're supposed to be giving out...

However... no one tells you this!! You need to register for the update service within 19 days of receiving your DBS certificate, but the Government don't make this obvious for the applicant.

    Ditto that!

We're buying balance bikes now to start some initial training next term, but would like to run it in line with Bikeability if possible...
